How to: Setting up the Developer’s Environment

best-practice.jpgI was about to explain how I created my virtual machine for use as the main environment for SharePoint development but I believe that the guys at Wrox (who by the way, have a couple of very good books about SharePoint 2010 programming -i’ll provide the links at the bottom) have already posted a very informative article that explains everything that needs to be taken into consideration, from selecting a virtual machine or installing on bare metal, to customising the tools that have been provided to the developer.

Make the jump for more information: here.

The couple of books that I have studied through and which greatly help both the starting and the advanced developer to migrate to the SharePoint platform are the following:

1. Beginning SharePoint 2010 Development.
2. Professional SharePoint 2010 Development.

PS: Do note that the first book of the two, is a bit on the less descriptive side. Some times, visits to the wrox forums will be required to fill in the blanks. In any case, they are both invaluable.
