We’ve since then moved to MS Teams so I’m not entirely certain if the following still works, but if Slack taking up space in your taskbar is annoying you, you may prefer to close it to the notification area.
What was the actual problem:
Slack, by default, will always close to the taskbar. This may not be a problem for you, but I prefer my IM apps to “hide” in the notification area, next to the clock. This leaves my taskbar free for all the open apps/windows that I’m actually using.
What was the actual fix:
The setting to change this behaviour is somewhat hidden, or maybe not exactly where I would have thought to look in the first place.
In order to close Slack to the notification area, you will need to navigate to the preferences and turn the following option off:
Preferences > Notifications > Sounds and Appearance > Flash window when a notification is received
